MASTANI

Some days ago, I read about Mastani. Till that day, the story of Bajirao and Mastani was known to me as a love-story. According to the heard stories about Mastani, she was a dancer, and offered by Raja Chhatrasal to Bajirao. She was the most beautiful lady and Bajirao, so intensely loved her, that he tolerated hostility of his family and society. But when I read that Mastani was the daughter of Raja Chhatrasal, and was married with Bajirao, the whole image of Mastani changed. Now I realised that Mastani was victim of the customs  and the attitude of that period. Now I realised, what injustice Mastani had to tolerate! More important thing is that she tolerated it without any complaint. So really , now we feel sorry for you Mastani, and we must salute you.
Now after thinking, I realised that in this progressed and cultured society, today also there are so many ladies who are victims of customs and traditions. For example, the status of a widow in society. When any lady becomes widow, in fact, it is a blow of sorrow on her mind. Is there any mistake on her part for such disaster? But our traditions and customs impose so many restrictions on her, that her right to enjoy the life is deprived from her. Now she is expected to only breath and take meal only sufficient to live. Now it is expected that she should not laugh or entertain herself in the whole remaining life. It is expected that she should keep so much fasts and eat minimum. She should not participate joyful programs like 'Haladi-kunku’. Even her close relatives also avoid her in holi programs. And when any lady is such treated by her relatives, she feels like thousands and thousands needles are pricking to her mind.
A widow is always pitiful for the society then she may be on whatever position in her office or however clever , she may be.  At the same time, there are no restrictions on any widower. Now, this situation is changing slowly, but only in cities and only in cases of 10% widows.
Now mankind is progressing in all fields, but not in society's attitude towards widows. Some days ago I had read in  an article, that now birds like crows and animals like chimpanzees are using their brains and progressing. On Iceland at the East of Australia, crows are making weapons from twigs and sharpen leaves of pandanus and using them for hunting.  The chimpanzees are also now sharpening twigs by biting them and using them to poke the animals  living in pot-bellied and hunting. Yesterday I saw a video of a crow who found an almond with shell. He purposely threw that almond on a road near signal where so many cars were passing on. The almond was cracked under wheels of a car. The crow was looking at the signal. When the signal became red, the vehicles stopped, the crow came down and ate that almond.  So while such birds and animals are using their brains, when shall we start to use our brains and avoid such unjust customs and traditions?

PURITY

Even though, adulteration is crime, now a day, there is adulteration in almost every thing. There is adulteration in eatables like oil, ghee, mustard, turmeric, chilli powder, pepper, salt, honey, saffron, pulses, panir, ice-cream. There are chemicals sprinkled on vegetables to look fresh. Many times, fruits are rippen with the help of chemicals. Many times, apples are coated with wax to look attractive and fresh. Many times, watermelons are injected with chemicals to be sweet and red. In farms the farmers are using so much fertilizer, that it is affecting the crops and that crop is becoming injurious for health. In gold and silver jewelry, there can be adulteration of  alloyed metal. If we become ill because of the adulteration, and we take medicine, there is adulteration in medicine also. In short, today, purity has become rare.       This purity hasn't become rare only in eatables and other things, but also in mankind's relationship. So ma...

Colours of the days

Yesterday,I met our family friend -a retired person- and as formality, I asked him that how he was, he started to complain about his retired life. His main complaint was that for him now every day was similar to another,no change, no zest. Even on festival also except for some time, the remaining day was very dull for him. While speaking, he referred that after retirement, his all days are of grey colour, and yes, I also agreed with him on the point that days also have colours and various shades.                       Even though grammatically,a day is a concept and so it has no colour, no shape,no size. Again logically, day after day comes and it makes a week, month,a year and our life goes on. So a day doesn't differ from other days. Yet practically we have experience that if on a day, the climate is cloudy for the whole day, everyone feels dull, and as grey colour is symbol o...

Experience of trip is always delightful and memorable because we spend a lot of time with nature during trip much time we live with nature. But imagine if the nature accompanies you in your normal journey! Then that journey itself becomes a delightful and memorable trip.                                           Once, I experienced such journey. That journey was not at all arranged as a trip nor it was a long journey.I remember that it was 6th June and we all know that generally the climate is extremely hot during that time. That day too, the climate was extremely hot. I had to travel from Thane to Bhusawal. I started my journey from Thane in the afternoon at one o’clock. It was too hot to tolerate and we all were sweating and feeling very tired. Our train started in such climate and as it was arriving at the next station, we were experiencing various shades of nature. After an hour...
